The Panchachuli Peaks: A Spiritual Abode

Image of Panchachuli Peaks, Kumaon

Towering over the Darma Valley at an altitude ranging from 6,334 meters to 6,904 meters, the Panchachuli peaks (meaning “five peaks”) are a revered sight in Kumaon. Hindus believe these peaks represent the five Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata.

A Region Steeped in History:

The Darma Valley, where the trek unfolds, boasts a rich history. It was once an important trade route between India and Tibet and is inhabited by the fascinating tribal communities like the Darmas and Tolchhas.

A Realm of Diverse Flora & Fauna:

The Panchachuli trek traverses a diverse landscape teeming with life. Lush forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine give way to vibrant alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers in spring and summer. Keep an eye out for these creatures that call the Panchachuli region home:

  • Himalayan Monal:This vibrantly colored pheasant is a sight to behold.
